| Will You? |
S
57 But he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said. 58 A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied. 59 About an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean." 60 Peter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!"

In fear, Peter resorted to the only position his faith allowed him, a position of the " I don't ". Fear does this to all of us, we retract automatically, cowering in self- defense in hope that somehow by hiding, we elude the moment of danger, disappointment, or failure. This poise, in its taking, is immediately one that by default sets us on a back foot, compromised. Just imagine if the stance taken by Peter was one of confidence, a stance founded on his trust and relationship with Christ (for goodness sake, he journeyed alongside Jesus, watching and performing miracles, eat the bread Jesus multiplied from the five loaves), how much would this story be told as one that ends in glory rather than cowardice.

I know. I do know. We do know, the faithfulness of God. We have seen his goodness, we have born witness to the grace that He has bestowed on our lives. Our very lives, the very fact that we can speak of this God, is evidence that He has predestined, is working, will fulfill the promises. What is the stance I am going to take when Monday comes when the world picks a fight?
P
Father, before I even think what I can do, or what I have, or how I would fight, remind me of what You can do, who You are, How you would avenge. Amen. |
